Rocket Guy 02:41
I spent the summer like an atom bomb Cutting wires from the inside out And when I put myself together again I’m going to move out of my parents house Every summer it’s the same And I know that I’m to blame I’m going to build myself a rocket ship Out of shoelaces and Elmer’s glue And in the middle of a thunder storm I’m going to roll it down the avenue If you miss me while I’m taking off I’m going to call you while I’m on the moon If you never hear my name If you never see my face Tell me everything’s OK Well I hope you’re doing fine Well I hope you’re doing fine

I can be your third man, doll Just a symptom you’ve forgotten You slip me in your pocket Turn off the television now Set me in the corner Now in technicolor Geppetto won’t you hear me out? You’re painting on my features I’m everything you needed Don’t put me on the shelf, no I’ll never find another Don’t ask me what my name means I don’t believe in that Conversations one sided Pull my strings and watch me come apart for you I don’t believe in that Trouble speaking whenever you’re around And tell me what you want to do I don’t believe in that Wooden pieces inside You pull my strings And watch me come apart for you I don’t believe in that I don’t believe in that Bienvenue à tous et a tout au championnat interstellaire de tennis Pendant le match, veuillez ne pas utiliser d'appareils de téléportation De transport cybernétique ou de photographie avec flash en la matche I wonder what you dream about You’re smoking out the window Oh, darling Geppetto I’m wishing on a star too Grow legs and start talking Walking right beside you Cut off the strings and put me down Tell me what I’m missing Oh I never listen To the crickets on my shoulder Don’t ask me what my name means I don’t believe in that Conversations one sided Pull my strings and watch me come apart for you I don’t believe in that Trouble speaking whenever you’re around And tell me what you want to do I don’t believe in that Wooden pieces inside You pull my strings And watch me come apart for you I don’t believe in that I don’t believe in that De la parte de tous vos amis à l'ITC, merci et bienvenue

You’re still shaking I’m barely moving at all Green lines cut through A black screen tells you I’m fine You’re Gwyneth Paltrow I’m Richie Tenenbaum I cut my hair off You like me either way And every summer It’s going to be the same Going back to Telluride Riding round with nothing on Staying at your parents’ house Acting like there’s nothing wrong Going back to Telluride Sleeping with the TV on Darling so coledified Oh, I know it won’t be long Pull my sutures And climb in I’m warm inside You’ll breath my lungs I’m florescent and infrared And I’m yours Smoke out the window Listen to CD Roms You’re like a race car You are a palindrome And every summer Will never be the same Going back to Telluride Riding round with nothing on Staying at your parents’ house Acting like there’s nothing wrong Going back to Telluride Sleeping with the TV on Darling so coledified Oh, I know it won’t be long

This isn’t like you, San Francisco All of life’s a silent disco That’s what they told you back in flight school Before you learned to fly And later on in your compartment You draw the shades and sit in darkness Reading screens on aeronautics Measure space and time Don’t know where you’re going to land In California or Japan With your helmet on And pens in your pocket Think of the girl that you loved in college She kept your shirt and you built a rocket It wouldn’t fit you now The Falls been cold but space is freezing Houston tells me how you’re feeling These knobs and buttons have no meaning They flicker on and off I won’t ever understand If you’re a comet or a man If the station close and the stars don’t glimmer If you might want to come home for the Winter The Teflon suits and polyester Hang them by the door

about

The Interstellar Tennis Championship, Carter Vail’s sophomore project, is a semi-autobiographical fully-fictionalized journey from child to astronaut. With influences ranging from Bossa Nova to lo-fi pop to Disco, the album is a sometimes lighthearted sometime bittersweet look inwards.
